UKCA Marking of Machinery and Partly Completed Machinery.
After Brexit, the UK market requires its own marking: the UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) marking, rather than the CE marking. Since January 1, 2024, the CE marking has once again been recognized for most products placed on the GB market (England, Wales, and Scotland). For machinery and partly completed machinery, this means no longer having a parallel and distinct compliance path compared to the European one. Differences between CE marking and UKCA marking
UKCA marking follows the same basic technical principles as CE marking, but with some important differences to be aware of:
- It applies to the GB market (England, Wales, Scotland); Northern Ireland still uses the CE marking for many products
- It requires a UKCA Declaration of Conformity (similar to the CE Declaration of Conformity)
- The reference technical standards are the UK designated standards, which follow the harmonized EN standards but are adopted separately
- Notified bodies for the GB market must be registered as UK Approved Bodies; European ones are not sufficient
- The technical file must be kept available within the United Kingdom
Who needs to obtain UKCA marking
UKCA marking is mandatory for anyone wishing to place machinery and partly completed machinery on the GB market. This applies to Italian manufacturers exporting directly to the United Kingdom, importers and distributors based in GB purchasing from European producers, and authorized representatives established in the UK.
